Ursula K. Le Guin's Hainish Cycle is one of the most celebrated and influential science fiction series of all time. Set in a future where humanity has colonized dozens of planets, the Hainish Cycle explores the themes of cultural diversity, environmentalism, and the nature of good and evil.
This volume collects three of the most beloved novels in the Hainish Cycle: Rocannon's World, Planet of Exile, and City of Illusions.
Rocannon's World
Rocannon's World is the first novel in the Hainish Cycle. It tells the story of Rocannon, a young man from the planet Terra who is sent to the planet Fomalhaut II to investigate the disappearance of a group of colonists. Rocannon soon discovers that Fomalhaut II is a world of great beauty and mystery, but it is also a world that is threatened by a powerful and ancient evil.
Planet of Exile
Planet of Exile is the second novel in the Hainish Cycle. It tells the story of Jakob Agat, a man who is exiled from the planet Terra for his political beliefs. Jakob travels to the planet Werel, where he hopes to build a new life. However, Jakob soon discovers that Werel is a world of violence and oppression. Jakob must find a way to survive in this harsh world, while also fighting for the justice of his fellow exiles.
City of Illusions
City of Illusions is the third novel in the Hainish Cycle. It tells the story of Ekumen, a telepath who travels to the planet Anarres to investigate a group of dissidents. Ekumen soon discovers that Anarres is a world of secrets and lies. Ekumen must use her telepathic abilities to uncover the truth about Anarres, and to stop a conspiracy that threatens to destroy the planet.
These three novels are essential reading for any fan of science fiction. They are well-written, thought-provoking, and full of adventure and intrigue. If you have not yet read any of the Hainish Cycle novels, I highly recommend starting with this volume.
